Shamrock Marathon

This weekend our family participated in the Shamrock Marathon. 'R' did a final mile race. She ran a total of 25 miles in the past 2 months at school and at home before the race and then ran the final mile on the boardwalk at the beach. 'B' & 'N' ran the children's dash, which was only about 300 to 400 feet. Len ran with 'R' as one of the parent volunteers for her school and I ran with the little ones. It was a fun and interesting event!

We had heard of this race but had not actually seen it ourselves. It is HUGE and it is UNIQUE! First of all, it felt like the entire city population was within a 5 block radius of the boardwalk and beach. (We left our house an hour before the first race and we were still late b/c parking was truly horrific!) Second, people were dressed in every shade of green I could have imagined with shamrocks all over them. I saw shamrock sunglasses, jewelry, shirts, shoes, socks, tights, shorts, tattoos, boas, wigs, and hats. Anything green and shamrock-y was at the beach yesterday! There was one man I saw that quite literally looked like a freaky green leprechaun fairy complete with green tu-tu, leggings, and wings! We had lots of fun just people watching!

The pictures we got were not so great because we foolishly packed the small camera that doesn't take quick pictures and action sequences. Sorry about that. Next year we'll take the good camera! But here's what we got:

Hopefully we'll be able to do this again next year, although Len is scheduled to be gone. Anyone want to come run a mile or a children's dash with freaky leprechauns next March?
